Workflow

Verify identity before arrival. Confirm it at the gate.

Pre-registration proves who the person is. Gate check-in confirms it's actually them standing at your perimeter.

  • 01

    Mobile ID check (KYC)

People upload an ID card or passport and take a selfie on their phone before arrival. 9ID confirms the face matches the photo on the ID.

  • 02

    Live face match at check-in

At the kiosk, a live selfie is captured and compared to their pre-verified profile. Matches pass instantly; mismatches route to security staff.

  • 03

    Automatic access

Once confirmed, 9ID connects directly to your physical access hardware to grant entry in real time.

Before arrival

Verify identity on mobile before arrival

  • Upload ID document

The worker takes a photo of their passport, national ID card, or driver's license. 9ID checks that the document is valid, unedited, and readable.

  • Match selfie to ID photo

The worker takes a quick selfie on their phone. 9ID compares face directly against the photo on the ID card to confirm it really belongs to them.

AT THE GATE

Instant face matching at the gate

A camera at check-in compares the worker's face against their verified registration photo before unlocking entry.

  • Person arrives at the kiosk

After arriving, the worker identifies themselves at the kiosk by QR code, badge, etc.

  • Live selfie captured

The kiosk camera captures a new live photo and compares it to the selfie from registration.

  • Match or review

A match clears check-in without interruption. A mismatch holds access and routes the case to security staff for review.

Match outcomes

Guards stay in control of edge cases

When a face match is unclear, 9ID hands the decision to your security team to investigate and decide whether to grant access.

  • Match: Instant entry

If the live face capture matches the profile on file, the person is cleared to enter your site.

  • Mismatch: Guard review

If the live face capture doesn't match, the gate stays closed and alerts guards to clear the person manually.

  • No profile: Manual check-in

When no selfie is on file yet, 9ID skips the camera check and routes the worker straight to reception for a manual check-in.

Confirm every arrival is the right person

Pair KYC identity checks with live face match at the gate, without slowing throughput or adding reception admin.

FAQ

Discover answers to common questions
about 9ID's AI security agent.

What is the difference between the KYC identity check and live face match at check-in?

The KYC identity check happens before arrival. It verifies an ID document and confirms the person's selfie matches the photo on that document. Live face match at check-in happens at the kiosk when they arrive. It compares a fresh live capture against the selfie stored during registration to confirm the person checking in is the same one who registered.

What happens when the live selfie does not match the registration photo?

The person is placed in review and access is held until a staff member investigates. Entry is not denied automatically. Your team decides whether to admit them after reviewing the case.

What if someone registered without a selfie on file?

Automated face match is skipped for that person. They follow your site's manual review path instead of the biometric check-in step.

Does biometric verification add work for administrators?

No separate enrollment is required. The selfie captured during the standard registration identity check becomes the reference for gate face match. Administrators configure whether the feature is enabled per site or kiosk.

Is 9ID accredited to process biometric identity data?

Yes. 9ID is accredited as an Authorized Biometric Processor and is ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certified. See our Trust Center for full security and privacy documentation.
