ISPS & port security

Turn ISPS compliance rules into automated gate pre‑clearance

Launch the 9ID ISPS Blueprint to pre-register and verify every worker, contractor, visitor and driver. Your access policy is enforced the same way for every person, so nobody reaches the gate unverified.

How it works

Set up in minutes. Automate forever.

Start from a pre-configured blueprint, designed specifically for regulated maritime facilities under the ISPS Code.

  1. 01

    Start from the ISPS Blueprint

Identity, authorisation and document requirements are already structured. Adjust the blueprint to your PFSP, roles and restricted zones.

  2. 02

    Pre-register before arrival

Workers, contractors, visitors and drivers complete the required checks on their phone before travelling to the port facility.

  3. 03

    Screen and decide

9ID verifies the submitted evidence and runs connected checks. Clear results can proceed; exceptions go to the right security team for review.

  4. 04

    Prove every decision

Every approval, rejection, document and timestamp stays linked to the person, creating one audit-ready access record.

Time saved

It's not faster admin. It's the manual admin you didn't have to do.

Every person arriving at an ISPS gate has to be identified, have their purpose confirmed, and have their documents checked. Done by hand that is around five minutes per check, at the gate, with a queue behind them.

Who gets verified

Automated pre-clearance for every entry profile.

Apply role-specific compliance rules across contractors, visitors, and drivers from a single workflow.

  • Recurring access

    Contractors

External workers with the heaviest requirements: identity, certificates, safety training and permits. Verified once, kept current, and re-checked when documents expire.

  • Occasional access

    Visitors

Access for a specific purpose, host and time window. Pre-registered by invitation, so the gate never has to decide who someone is or why they are there.

  • High-volume access

    Truckers

Time-critical arrivals. Drivers pre-clear identity and vehicle details before they arrive, and co-drivers are authorised individually instead of entering on someone else’s badge.

Inside the blueprint

Automated checks required for ISPS compliance.

Covers mandatory Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) measures before personnel reach your perimeter.

  • Identity verification

An official ID document — passport, national ID or seaman’s book — matched to the person. A driving licence is not accepted as identity at Belgian facilities.

  • Purpose of visit and host

The reason for entry is recorded and confirmed against a work order, assignment or joining instruction. No purpose, no access.

  • Restricted-area authorisation

Access granted per role, zone and time window, with permanent credentials for staff and temporary ones for visitors.

  • Security awareness training

Site induction and the security briefing a role requires, completed before first entry and tracked with the documents.

  • Certificates and permits

Safety certificates, work permits and medicals collected once, then re-requested automatically before they lapse.

  • Vehicle and driver registration

Licence plate, country, vehicle and driver captured with the arrival, so vehicles entering the facility are registered like people.

  • Real-time attendance

IN and OUT registration on one list, so the PFSO can answer who is inside the facility at any moment.

  • Audit-ready records

Who was cleared, on what evidence, by whom and when: timestamped and exportable for authority inspections.

  • Port-ban screening

People screened against port bans inside the same flow. In Belgium this runs on the federal AIGIS platform.

Belgium

Native AIGIS integration for Belgian port facilities

AIGIS centralizes federal judicial port bans. 9ID connects that source to the identity and authorisation workflow, ensuring background checks occur automatically within the access decision itself.

  • Automated screening during pre-clearance
  • Real-time sync with federal judicial ban registries
  • Automatic exception flags sent to security teams prior to arrival
  • Immutable, timestamped compliance logs per identity

ISPS compliance FAQs

Discover answers to common questions
about 9ID's AI security agent.

What is the 9ID ISPS Blueprint?

It is a ready-made identity and access workflow for port facilities. It structures identity verification, business purpose, host approval, role and zone authorisation, required documents, port-ban screening, and the resulting audit trail. You adapt it to your own Port Facility Security Plan rather than building every workflow from scratch.

Does 9ID replace our Port Facility Security Plan?

No. The PFSO and the competent authorities remain responsible for the PFSP and the facility’s ISPS obligations. 9ID digitises the people-facing access-control and authorisation processes that support that plan. Physical perimeter security, surveillance, searches, drills and incident response remain part of the wider security programme.

Who can be screened and pre-registered?

Employees, contractors, subcontractors, visitors, drivers and other external people can follow a workflow matched to their role, purpose, access window and permitted zones. Requirements can differ by population without forcing the gate team to run separate manual processes.

How does the AIGIS connection work in 9ID?

AIGIS is Belgium’s central platform for judicial port bans. 9ID brings that screening into the person’s pre-clearance workflow, alongside identity and authorisation checks. This removes the need to manage a separate spreadsheet-based lookup and gives the security team one result in the person’s access record.

Is the AIGIS connection relevant outside Belgium?

AIGIS is specific to Belgian judicial port bans. Port facilities elsewhere can still use the ISPS Blueprint for identity verification, pre-registration, role and zone authorisation, document checks and audit records, with local screening requirements configured separately.

Can we add facility-specific checks?

Yes. The blueprint is a starting point. You can add your own permits, inductions, certificates, approvals, declarations and document-expiry rules, and assign them by role, site or restricted zone.

Is there an audit trail?

Yes. 9ID keeps the identity evidence, screening result, authorisation decision, approvals and timestamps together. That gives security teams a traceable record for internal reviews, authority inspections and incident investigations.
