Port & terminal security

Keep terminal gatesmoving with zerocompliance compromises

9ID's AI security agent automatically pre-clears external personnel and the companies employing them before they arrive at your gate, eliminating gatehouse queues while keeping terminals fully compliant.

How it works

Pre-verify every external company and person before they reach your gate

An automated identity verification workflow for contractors, visitors, drivers and their employers that keeps gates moving smoothly, without compromising security.

  1. 01

    Start from the blueprint

Company and personal checks are pre-configured. Adjust to your policy, terminal zones, and company types.

  2. 02

    Companies register themselves

Send an invitation link. The external company registers, gets checked automatically, and adds the people it sends.

  3. 03

    Checks run before arrival

Identity, watchlist screening, and briefing on their phone. Your team only reviews flagged cases.

  4. 04

    Every clearance is logged

Every check, source, and timestamp linked to the external person and company. Exportable in one click for audits.

Gate operations

Manual gate checks cannot keep up with daily terminal arrivals.

Relying on physical guard checks at the perimeter causes vehicle queues, delayed site entries, operational friction, and exposes you to security risks.

  • ~12 minutes of manual checks per arrival

Security staff collect ID, verify permits and confirm compliance at the gate while trucks queue behind

~20 second check-in at the gate

Identity and documents checked on their phone before travel. Cleared arrivals scan through in seconds

  • Expired certificates slip through

Safety permits and work certificates verified at first visit, not monitored when they lapse

    Documents automatically checked for expiry

Permits, certificates and inductions collected once, then re-requested automatically before they lapse

  • Gate team decides under time pressure

Security staff verify identity, purpose and documents while trucks queue behind and pressure builds at the gate

    Pre-cleared arrivals pass through

Verified people and vehicles proceed through the gate with a QR scan. Check-in takes ~20 seconds

  • Unverified contractor chains

Zero visibility into subcontractor companies or corporate compliance

    Dual-layer pre-clearance

Simultaneous pre-verification of external companies and individual personnel

  • Siloed terminal records

A person blocked at one terminal can still badge in at another in the same portfolio

    Portfolio-wide enforcement

One overview across your terminals. A block at one location applies at every site

  • Fragmented access records

Spreadsheets, gate notes, and badge lists that do not link a decision to the person, company, and check

    Linked audit trails

Every check, source, timestamp, and decision logged to the external person and company, exportable in one click

The port terminal blueprint

Automated checks required before physical access

9ID checks two things for every external company and person entering your site: the company you contract, and each individual who arrives. Contractors, visitors, and drivers are all covered. Both layers complete before arrival.

01 Company Per VAT number

Company checks

Every external company you admit to site. Enter a VAT number and 9ID runs checks against official sources, then keeps monitoring them so you hear about a change when it happens.

  • VAT database check Registration confirmed at the source
  • Sanctions and watchlist screening EU Financial Sanctions, UN Security Council, OFAC and other official lists, monitored continuously
02 Individuals Per person

Personal checks

Every external person the company sends, whether contractor, visitor, or driver, completes their own checks on their phone before arrival.

  • KYC identity check ID document verified and matched to the person
  • Watchlist screening EU Financial Sanctions, UN Security Council, OFAC, INTERPOL Red Notices and other official sources
  • Security briefing Your terminal rules read and confirmed before the first visit

Add checks from the library where your own policy asks for more.

FAQ

Discover answers to common questions
about 9ID's AI security agent.

Can we customize the Port Terminal Blueprint?

Yes. The checks shown on this page are the baseline: company and personal checks most terminals start with. 9ID has a large library of additional checks you can add on top: UBO screening, credit checks, work permits, safety certificates, AIGIS port-ban screening, host approval, zone authorization, and more. Assign them by role, terminal, or zone to match your policy.

Does 9ID replace our access control system?

No. Your gate barriers, badge readers and cameras stay as they are. 9ID decides who is allowed to reach them. It holds the verified identity, check results and access rules per zone and time window, and passes a verified person to the systems you already have.

Does 9ID integrate with our existing physical access control system?

Yes. 9ID connects to your PACS (gate barriers, badge readers, door controllers and badge provisioning tools) via APIs and integrations. Screening results and access rules per zone and time window are evaluated in 9ID first; verified permissions are passed to the systems you already run. Pre-registration and verification happen in 9ID; cleared people pass to the gate hardware you already run.

If someone is blocked at one terminal, can they enter another?

No. 9ID gives you one overview across your whole portfolio. If an external person is blocked at one terminal, that decision applies at every site you run on 9ID.

How does this relate to ISPS compliance?

This page covers operational terminal access control. If your facility operates under the ISPS Code, the ISPS Blueprint maps the people-facing access measures in your Port Facility Security Plan, including purpose of visit, zone authorization, training records and authority-ready audit trails.

What if an external company sends a different person at short notice?

The replacement completes the checks in their own name first. External companies add and manage their own people, so this usually takes minutes instead of a phone call to your gate team. Someone who has not been checked does not get access.

Are the checks repeated over time?

Yes. Company checks are monitored after onboarding, so a watchlist hit or registration change shows up when it happens. Personal documents are tracked to their expiry date and requested again before they expire.

How is personal data handled?

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is role-based, and every action is logged. 9ID is GDPR-compliant and certified to ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and SOC 2 Type II. A Data Processing Agreement is part of onboarding.
