9ID Launches the First AI Security Agent, Making Access to Sites Faster and More Secure

9ID, the Antwerp-based scale-up, has launched an AI security agent designed to speed up how visitors, external workers, and drivers check in at industrial sites. According to the company, a process that today often takes more than 12 minutes can be reduced to around 20 seconds.

The launch responds to a familiar combination of pressures: staffing shortages in the guarding sector and stricter safety and compliance requirements. Research by 9ID found that nearly 90 percent of security managers struggle to staff all locations adequately while still meeting rising expectations for visitor and contractor screening.

On many sites, access still runs largely through manual workflows, with registrations, document checks, and badge creation handled by guards on shift. “A large part of a guarding shift consists of repetitive administrative work,” says Frederik Keysers, co-founder and CPO of 9ID. “Our AI agent is built to automate that layer so teams can focus on exceptions and incidents that need human judgement.”

From pre-registration to badge issue

Visitors can register online in advance, submitting their details and documents before arrival. At the gate, they scan a QR code. The AI agent then verifies identity documents, checks whether required certificates are in place, and completes the registration flow.

When a visit is approved, a badge can be issued automatically and the right contact person is notified, without a guard retyping the same information at the desk.

9ID emphasises that the technology does not replace guarding teams. It takes on administrative tasks so staff have more time for situations where human assessment matters, such as exceptions or safety incidents.

Five million check-ins and counting

Since its founding in 2020, 9ID has processed more than five million check-ins and scans roughly one million documents per year. The platform is already used at industrial sites operated by companies including Alpro, TVH, and Aquafin.

With the launch, 9ID is targeting further growth in access control. The company was founded by CEO Roy Jeunen and CPO Frederik Keysers with the ambition of becoming a European standard for AI-driven access security at industrial locations.

About 9ID

9ID is a Belgian scale-up that makes contractor, visitor, and driver access smarter, faster, and safer. Its platform helps companies verify people on site in seconds by checking IDs, safety certificates, and compliance requirements that used to tie up reception and guarding teams for minutes per person.

After millions of successful check-ins across industrial customers, 9ID is scaling its AI-assisted workflows across Europe.
